A South Carolina murder suspect was arrested on Halloween in Lee County, sheriff’s officials said.
Phenix City police and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to an alarm around 8:50 a.m. CDT at the BP station at Summerville Road and Pierce Road. A caller told authorities that a man in the store’s parking lot might be wanted for murder in South Carolina, and when officers arrived, they found the man later identified as Randal William Benton, 37, of Summerville, S.C., said Lee County Sheriff’s Capt. Van Jackson.
A records check connected the suspect to the Saturday fatal shooting of his wife, Treva Dawn Benton, 37, Jackson said. According to reports, the pair was in the process of a divorce.
“South Carolina authorities reported that Ms. Benton was fatally shot multiple times in the parking lot (of) a local business while witnesses were present,” a release states.

Randal Benton is being held in the Lee County Detention Facility pending extradition, Jackson said.
