A 16-year-old boy who police say told them he accidentally stabbed his grandmother in the throat and stomach in August 2009, killing her, was indicted Tuesday for murder, court records state.
Ethan Welch is accused of fatally stabbing 59-year-old Brenda Cook, who home schooled the teen. Police testified in Columbus Recorder’s Court that Welch initially didn’t incriminate himself during an interview, though after being asked for saliva samples, he said his teeth impressions may be on Cook’s hand.
That statement led to a discussion between the detective and Welch in another room, where the detective saw blood stains on the boy’s shirt and what appeared to be bite marks on his hands, police said.
Welch was indicted on charges of murder, concealing the death of another, possession of a knife during the commission of a crime and two counts of aggravated assault, court records state.
