The dean of the College of Science and Mathematics at Auburn University was killed in traffic accident early Friday morning.
Marie W. Wooten, 53, was one of two pedestrians struck by a vehicle on South College Street shortly before 6 a.m. She and the victim, a 39-year-old woman from Opelika, were struck by a 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier as they crossed the road at the intersection of South Donahue Drive.
Wooten was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 39-year-old woman was flown from the scene by Life Saver helicopter to The Medical Center with serious injuries. Her condition is unknown at this time.

The driver of the Cavalier, a 58-year-old Auburn man, was not injured.
The case remains under investigation by the Auburn Police Division and the Lee County Coroner's Office.
