Parking on some parts of the city right of way in the Historic District will be banned under an ordinance considered by Columbus Council.
The ordinance sponsored by Councilor Evelyn "Mimi" Woodson would require residents and visitors to park in a driveway with an approved curb. Vehicles wouldn't be allowed to park along the sidewalks unless they are perpendicular to the street in a driveway.
Donna Newman, director of the city's Engineering Department, said the ordinance is part of the first phase of measures to protect the green space in the area.
Council could approve the parking rules at it next meeting on Nov. 23.
