A 20-year-old accused of trying to rape a woman on the Riverwalk was indicted on Tuesday, court records state.
A Muscogee County grand jury indicted Danny McCasland, 20, on charges of attempted rape, robbery and entering an auto to commit theft, records show.
According to police, a 50-year-old woman was riding her bicycle near the marina around 7 p.m. on Sept. 5 when she spotted the suspect trying to get inside a vehicle. He shouted to her that he’d locked his keys inside, and she kept riding. Moments later, the suspect ran up behind her and tackled her, police said.
They two struggled, and the suspect tried to sexually assault the woman during the struggle, police added.
The woman escaped, and the suspect hopped on her bicycle and rode off, turning around at some point and riding toward her. She ran from the area, got inside a nearby van and locked the doors, police said.
The woman then began blowing on the horn to get people’s attention, police said.
Officers arrived and got a description of the man. They spotted the suspect in the area around 8 p.m. and arrested him, police said.
The bicycle was found in a ditch near the RiverWalk, police report.
