A Tuesday night shooting at an apartment off Buena Vista Road left one man dead and another in the hospital in unknown condition, police said.
The shooting at 475 Old Buena Vista Road around 7:45 p.m. resulted in the death of Kelley Leggett, 52, of Columbus, authorities said. Leggett was pronounced dead at 8 p.m. at The Medical Center, said Deputy Coroner Freeman Worley. The death is being investigated as a homicide, said Lt. John McMichael.
“We’re trying to piece together what may have happened,” said Columbus Police Capt. William Turner.
The men were found lying inside an apartment and taken by ambulance to The Medical Center, authorities said.
Turner added that it appears a suspect or suspects shot the men and then fled the area. He had no indications Tuesday that the men would have shot each other.
Crime tape formed a perimeter around one of a number of small apartment buildings. Evidence markers sat in front of a car with a “for sale” sign.
Turner said that shotgun casings were found, though a weapon hadn’t been recovered.
Leggett's body has been sent to Atlanta for an autopsy, Worley said.
