The Second Annual Veterans Day Parade is Saturday with a series of speakers before the parade through downtown Phenix City and Columbus.
Columbus Councilor Jerry “Pops” Barnes, who organized the event last year, said the parade is even bigger this year with 98 entries compared with 76 last year.
At noon, Barnes joins state Sen. Ed Harbison, Mayor Jim Wetherington, Maj. Gen. Robert Brown of Fort Benning and retired Army Col. Ralph Puckett at Broadway and 11th Street in Columbus in a series of speeches to recognize veterans.
The parade kicks off at 1 p.m. on Broad Street in Phenix City. It goes north to 13th Street and crosses into Columbus. The group then goes south on Broadway to Ninth Street and continues east to Veterans Parkway. The parade travels south on Veterans Parkway and ends at the Columbus Civic Center.
