After about five hours of deliberation, a jury convicted Rickey Powell today on all 11 counts in connection with the 2008 murder of Columbus Realtor Herta Bailey.
Superior Court Judge John Allen sentenced Powell, 42, to life in prison for the murder and 20 years, consecutive, for robbery.
Bailey’s body, covered in acid, was found on Sept. 30, 2008, in Columbus’ Beallwood area in the trunk of her Ford Mustang. Powell, who rented a Pine Needle Drive home Bailey owned, was the last appointment Bailey had scheduled the day before her body was found.
Powell used Bailey’s credit card to pay off several delinquent utility bills in the days after her death. After being arrested for using the card, he led police to Bailey’s body.
