Hungry Howie’s Pizza has targeted Phenix City for a new store as part of a statewide expansion over the next five years.
Tom Kazbour, Alabama area developer for the Michigan-based chain, said Wednesday the Phenix City outlet should open next summer, although no site has been found yet.
Hungry Howie’s, known for its flavored crusts, already has 20 stores in Alabama. Kazbour is planning up to 25 more locations spread among Birmingham, Huntsville, Montgomery and Decatur.
There currently is one Hungry Howie’s in Columbus, on Schomburg Road. That location is company operated, said Brian Ognian, Hungry Howie’s vice president of franchise development.
The chain has 577 stores in 24 states, but only eight locations in Georgia, said Ognian, acknowledging the company has been seeking an area developer in the state for some time.
“You really want to find somebody that can develop a market and is involved in the community, because we find when that’s there, it’s a win-win for everybody,” he said.
