Marshall Middle School will have an event on Friday, Nov. 19 to celebrate the school making adequate yearly progress this year.
The celebration will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will include a parade and performances from the Carver High and Spencer High bands. There will also be activities for students throughout the day.
The school made AYP under the No Child Left Behind Act this year, after being designated as Needs Improvement for several years.
A school is put on the Needs Improvement list if they do not make AYP two years in a row. Students in needs improvement schools have access to tutoring and sometimes have the option to transfer to better-performing schools. A school must make AYP two years in a row to be taken off the Needs Improvement list. Marshall Middle made AYP this year and in 2009.
