Columbus police say a teen driver carrying four others in his car drove through an intersection, into a yard and collided with a brick home early Sunday.
An officer spotted Marquel Nathaniel Price, 17, driving a 2005 Volvo S60 north on Whitesville Road near Buckeye Way around 2:20 a.m., reports state. According to police, the suspect was doing 66 mph in a 40 mph zone, leading the officer to do a U-turn and follow the Volvo.
The suspect turned right onto Buckeye and then immediately turned left onto Fawndale Drive. The officer turned on his emergency lights, though the Volvo kept going, skipped a stop sign, passed through both lanes of Doerun Drive and onto a yard before colliding with a home, reports state.
Police said the suspect ran from the car, though he was caught by officers about 1/2 mile away.
None of the car’s occupants reported any injuries, police said. The home was “extensively damaged,” police report.
Price faces charges of speeding, reckless driving, disregarding a stop sign, failure to maintain lane, striking a fixture, too fast for conditions and leaving the scene of an accident, police said.
