Alabama State Rep. Lesley Vance, who has represented Russell County and parts of Lee County for 16 years, announced today that he is switching from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party.
Vance said today in a release that his decision comes from the Democrats having lost the majority in the state House. He had served as chairman of the House Banking and Insurance Committee and as a member of the Joint Transportation Committee.
"My decision to switch parties has everything to do with helping the people of this state, and specifically those that I am elected to serve ..." Smith said in a release today. "They are much better served with me being in the leadership of the Republican Party, and the majority, than in the Democrat Party, and in the minority.”
Vance is president of both Vance Memorial Chapel in Phenix City and Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Columbus, Ga.
