A University of Georgia instructor has won the national Charles E. Anderson Award from the American Meteorological Society according to a release from the school.
Marshall Shepherd, an associate professor of geography, will accept the award at the annual meeting of the AMS in Seattle, WA. in January.
The award is given for "outstanding and sustained contributions in promoting diversity in the atmospheric science through educational outreach activities for students and scientists in multiple institutions."
Shepherd said that minorities and women are still under-represented in the atmospheric-related sciences. "If this award or my work inspires one young mind, it is a rewarding feeling for me."
