Three people were arrested on shoplifting charges at Sears on Tuesday – two of them on felony charges, Columbus police said.
The first two arrests at the 5555 Whittlesey Blvd. store happened around 4 p.m. A man and woman – later identified by police as Keith Lowe, 37, and Shardae S. Crowell, 22 – each face a count of felony theft by shoplifting, reports state.
Crowell entered the store, went to the rear of the building and began filling out an application. Lowe went to the perfume aisle and allegedly began picking several perfume bottles, walking to a different part of the store and then taking the bottles from their packages, police said.
After putting the perfume in his pockets, he returned to the perfume aisle and got more perfume boxes and allegedly repeated the pattern, reports state.
Crowell then approached Lowe and both went to the perfume aisle. She then picked out some perfume boxes and they both went to a different part of the store, where Lowe allegedly took the perfume from its boxes as Crowell watched, police report.
An officer responding to a report of shoplifting spotted the suspects outside the store. He approached Lowe, told him he was under arrest and grabbed his right hand. Lowe allegedly pulled away and ran from the officer, who chased him a short distance before arresting him, reports state. About $450 worth of perfume was found on the suspect.
Lowe also faces a charge of obstruction of an officer, police said.
The third arrest happened around 7:35 p.m. Tuesday. A man identified by police as Ronny Edward Brookins, 22, allegedly put on a $36 black shirt and walked out of the store without paying for it. An officer saw him in the parking lot and arrested him, reports state.
