An investigation into a runaway 15-year-old girl has led Phenix City police to charge two men with rape and sodomy and the girl with two counts of prostitution.
Marcus Rashard Cumberlander, 28, and Eric Duran Crowell, 26, both of Phenix City, face charges of second-degree rape and second-degree sodomy. In addition, Cumberlander faces a count of contributing to the delinquency of a child, police said.
The arrests stem from a report of a runaway girl. Lt. Jason Whitten said the girl’s parents recently called police, saying their daughter had again run away from home.
An investigator familiar with the case went to the Colonial Inn, 905 U.S. 280, where he found Cumberlander and the girl on Monday, authorities said.
“It’s been an ongoing investigation for a couple of weeks with us,” Whitten said. “It’s a good possibility there might be some more arrests.”
