Students and employees at Richards Middle School will start school one hour later today, due to a problem with the heating in the building.
Faculty and staff will report at their regular times. Classes for students -- which usually begin at 9 a.m. -- will begin at 10 a.m.
Buses will run one hour late with the exception of the transfer buses. Transfer buses will run at the regular time. Students who ride transfer buses will be received by members of the staff at the school and placed in a warm area of the building.
The district is working to repair a switch, which helps control heat in the building, communications director Valerie Fuller said.
Ninety percent of Richards Middle School was without heat Wednesday.
The part for the boiler was ordered on Tuesday and was supposed to be delivered Wednesday morning, but the part was delivered to Clearwater, Florida instead of Columbus, Fuller said.
"We have been notified of a guaranteed delivery of the part to Columbus by 7:30 a.m. in the morning. It will take approximately 1-1/2 hours to install the components and get the boiler on line and anticipate it will take about a half hour to warm up the building," Fuller said in an email.
