A Columbus man first accused of child molestation by state authorities now faces a federal indictment on child pornography charges.
A federal grand jury indicted Branden B. Bounds, 27, on charges of production of child pornography and possession of child pornography on Jan. 19. He’s accused of enticing a minor under 6 years old to “engage in sexually explicit conduct” so he could make a picture of it between December 2009 and February 2010, his indictment states.
Bounds was arrested in March at his north Columbus apartment on charges of aggravated child molestation, jail records state. According to Columbus Police Lt. John McMichael, Bounds’ arrest stemmed from a Feb. 14 report that he had allegedly touched a 5-year-old girl.
The girl told her parents on Valentine’s Day, the lieutenant added.
Senior Assistant District Attorney LaRae Moore said that the federal government’s case against Bounds doesn’t interfere with her state case, and he can still be prosecuted through both court systems.
