A manhunt for a suspected killer this morning has led to seven Muscogee County School District Schools and three Harris County Schools being put on lockdown.
The Columbus schools are Northside High, Veterans Middle, North Columbus Elementary, Double Churches Middle, Double Churches Elementary, Shaw High, and Eagle Ridge Elementary.
The Harris County schools are Mountain Hill Elementary, Creekside School and Mulberry Creek Elementary.
"It's a Level 1 lockdown," explained Melanie Knight, the principal at Veterans Memorial Middle School. "That means we have locked all of the doors and we have covered all of the windows so that nobody can see inside. Students are not allowed outside of the building. Students are aware of what is going on but everything is calm."
Clara Davis, the assistant principal at Eagle Ridge Academy, said parents should not panic. She said that, so far, some parents have come to take their kids out but just for normal activities such as a dentist's appointment.
"We're not letting the children on the playground but other than locking the school we're still doing what we always do. There is no reason for parents to be concerned."
