Muscogee County schools which have locked down this morning while police hunt for an armed shooting suspect in North Columbus will dismiss at the normal time.
The schools are operating under heightened safety procedures with security measures in place and supervision at the schools including the bus boarding areas and car rider pickup areas.
Principals of Veterans Memorial, Northside High, North Columbus Elementary, Double Churches Middle School, Double Churches Elementary, Eagle Ridge Academy and Shaw High School are contacting parents of their schools with specific updates and instructions related to his or her school.
For example, a note sent out from Double Churches Middle School says that students that are picked up by car will be dismissed one by one as cars pull up. Children are not being allowed to walk home. Parents are asked to make other arrangements or call the school.
After school tutoring and athletics, the message says, will be allowed to proceed but students will not be allowed to walk home after those activities.
In Harris County, students who ride the bus from Mountain Hill Elementary will stay at the school until law enforcement says its okay to let them go. Others Harris County schools will likely operate under the same rules.
