Central-Phenix City sent six players on to the college level including three to FBS programs this morning.
Linebacker Bronterrious Jakes (6-0, 215) and receiver J.D. McKissic (5-10, 185) signed with Arkansas State, defensive lineman Bryan Shorter (6-2, 275) signed with Western Kentucky, defensive lineman Meschah Chambers (6-2, 225) signed with West Alabama, offensive lineman Tori Bennett (5-10, 280) signed with Stillman College and cornerback Christian Butler (5-10, 170) signed with Clark Atlanta.
"I have no doubt about it that these guys will be able to represent Central High School and this community where ever they go," Central coach Woodrow Lowe said. "We've instilled a G.C.P. program about being good, clean and pure, and I guarantee these guys will follow that all the way through."
Today is known as national signing day and it is the first day football players may sign letters of intent to play for NCAA programs.
Never miss a local story.
Central defensive lineman Rakeem Nunez (6-4, 315) signed a scholarship with Southern Miss in December in order to enroll early, and Lowe said several more Central players could sign with colleges in the coming weeks.
