Even as it was reporting an $848 million loss for 2010, Synovus Financial Corp. received accolades for its customer service.
The Columbus-based regional banking firm said Friday it recently brought home 13 Greenwich Associates Excellence Awards for its small-business and middle-market banking business.
Greenwich, a financial services research and consulting firm, handled for more than 14,000 interviews with small-business customers in the $1 million to $10 million range to determine its award winners. The middle-market category involves banking customers in the $10 million to $500 million range.
Out of 750 banks, 34 picked up excellence awards for 2010.
“We are pleased to again be recognized as one of the best in the country at exceeding the expectations of our customers with great service and financial products and services that meet their needs,” Kessel Stelling, Synovus president and chief executive officer, said in a statement.
Synovus, its financials hammered by loan losses for 10 straight quarters, earlier this month said it is cutting 850 jobs from its work force this year and closing 39 underperforming branches, three in Columbus. About 100 of the job cuts are believed to have come at Columbus Bank and Trust, a Synovus subsidiary.
