A man police say pointed a gun at several people inside a St. Marys Road home Saturday night ran into a stopped police car as he tried to flee from officers.
Shawn Morrison, 26, of Columbus, faces obstruction, cruelty to children and aggravated assault charges in connection with the incident at Sheraton Mobile Home Estates, 3400 St. Marys Road, at 8:10 p.m., reports state.
According to police, the suspect had called his live-in 27-year-old girlfriend several times throughout the day after she left their home around 5 a.m. At some point, she “slipped up” and told him where she was, leading him to go to the St. Marys Road home looking for a fight after he heard men talking in the background.
A man drove the suspect to the St. Marys Road home, not knowing the suspect’s intentions. When the suspect arrived, he walked inside the open front door and began arguing with his girlfriend, police said.

A woman who lives at the St. Marys Road home told the suspect to leave. Instead, he took off his black jacket and said “I like drama,” police report.
Someone shouted that the suspect had a gun, and the resident ushered a 7-year-old girl and two 12-year-old boys behind a kitchen counter and then to the back bedroom. She saw the suspect point a silver pistol at her, and she escaped to the bedroom to call police, reports state.
The suspect pointed the gun at others in the home, including his girlfriend as he said “... you ain’t going to do this to me.” The girlfriend managed to get the suspect to leave, and officers spotted him standing in front of the home when they arrived. An officer told the suspect to remain still, though he ran west through the mobile home park toward St. Marys Road, police said.
Reports state that the suspect quickly turned right when he reached Brennan Road and ran into a stopped police car. He bounced off and then ran to the driver’s side door, where officers arrested him.
After the suspect’s arrest, officers found a .380-caliber Sterling Arms Mark II pistol with a round in the magazine under the front porch steps, police said.
Morrison is being held at the Muscogee County Jail under no bond, records state.
