A Phenix City man is accused of almost hitting a police officer and pedestrian with a vehicle on Broadway early Sunday, reports state.
Tony Streeter, 26, faces charges in connection with the 4:40 a.m. incident that started when officers spotted a 2000 Nissan Maxima drive around a barricade at Broadway and 12th Street, police said.
According to reports, the vehicle pulled into a parking space after driving around the barricade. The driver spotted officers approach and then backed up as they yelled for him to stop.
The suspect drove forward, forcing an officer to jump out of the way. The suspect then ran a red light at Broadway and 11th Street, almost hit a pedestrian in the cross walk and went east toward Veterans Parkway. Police arrested the suspect at Veterans and 11th Street after he wrecked, police said.
Streeter is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, fleeing or eluding, reckless driving and driving without a license, reports state.
