Norjuan Johnson of Double Churches Middle School won the 2011 Muscogee County School District Spelling Bee this morning.
Johnson, a seventh grader, beat out 45 other contestants from the city's middle and elementary schools.
Johnson, who correctly spelled the word "abyss" to clinch the victory, will now compete in the District 6 competition at Fort Valley State University on Feb. 26.
"I’m going all the way to state," said Johnson, cradling his trophy and a new dictionary presented to him by MCSD Superintendent Susan Andrews. The state competition in which he hopes to participate is in Atlanta March 18.
