A 2-year-old boy was killed this afternoon when he was struck by a vehicle leaving his residence in East Columbus, police say.
Christian Bell was pronounced dead by doctors at The Medical Center at 5:13 p.m., Muscogee County Coroner Bill Thrower said. The body will be sent to Atlanta Thursday for an autopsy, Thrower said.
The single vehicle accident happened about 4:30 p.m. on West Park Court, which is just south of Carver Park.
Leon David, a 17-year-old neighbor, said he saw a man beating on the grass and saying repeatedly, "I didn't mean to hit him. He was supposed to be inside."
Neighbors said the boy had blood on his face. Several neighbors came out of their house and watched as emergency responders arrived. They said they could hear screaming and crying.
The coroner said Christian was born Christmas Eve, 2008.
