A father and son face accusations of influencing a witness and drug charges after police say they tried to get a witness to change his story.
Melvin Crouch Sr., 53, and Melvin Crouch Jr., 18, were arrested around 5 p.m. Tuesday after a traffic stop on Broadway, said Columbus Police Lt. Lynn Joiner.
According to authorities, the suspects met with a witness in a 2010 officer obstruction case at Krystal, 5420 Veterans Parkway, around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. They gave the witness $20 worth of suspected crack and had the witness meet them later that day at a Broadway attorney’s office.
At the office, they gave the witness $50 of suspected crack. They then met with the attorney, and the witness made an affidavit changing his initial statement he gave to police about the 2010 case, reports state.
Someone tipped off police, and officers pulled over the suspects on Broadway and arrested both, Joiner said.
Both men face two counts of sale of cocaine and a count of influencing a witness. They’re being held on no bond, the Muscogee County Jail said.
