"American Idol" revealed its Season 10 Top 24 on Thursday. Who made the cut?
Karen Rodriguez, Robbie Rosen, Tatynisa Wilson, Tim Halperin, Julie Zorrilla, Scotty McCreery , Jovany Barreto, Lauren Turner, Rachel Zevita, Kendra Chantelle Campbell, Jordan Dorsey, Lauren Alaina (Lauren Suddeth), Stefano Langone, Jacob Lusk, Pia Toscano, James Durbin, Casey Abrams, Thia Megia, Brett Loewenstern, Naima Adedapo, Clint Jun Gamboa, Haley Reinhart, Paul McDonald and Ashthon Jones.
Here are a few thoughts about Thursday's show, which included no more meltdowns from Jennifer Lopez:
I miss Jacee Badeaux! Yes, I know the 15-year-old singer can audition for "American Idol" again. But did he really deserve to get the boot? No way. I'd much rather see him in the Top 24 than Clint Jun Gamboa.
Never miss a local story.
The fake-out is no longer funny. "Idol" needs to ban all sentences to the effect of, "I hate to tell you this, but...you made it!"
Let the games begin! Here's next week's schedule: The men perform Tuesday (8-9:30 p.m.), women perform Wednesday (8-9:30 p.m.) and finalists are revealed Thursday (8-10 p.m.). Remember, this year we have a "sudden death" setup.
Some quick bios on the selected singers:
Watch the video clip and you’ll understand why he’s often compared to Adam Lambert. To some extent, Durbin is also an "Idol" producer's dream. He has a compelling back story. His dad died of a drug overdose. He's been diagnosed with Tourette syndrome and Asperger syndrome. He and his girlfriend have a kid and they're poor. So many elements.
He looks like Seth Rogen and plays a melodica, which is a keyboard/harmonica combo. Some critics call him the new Taylor Hicks. Casey was hospitalized for stomach pains Wednesday night, according to TMZ.
He’s among the contestants who have received the most air time so far. He’s a deep-voiced country singer who hails from a small town in North Carolina. In Hollywood, he felt bad for not speaking up when his group members gave 15-year-old Jacee Badeaux the boot.
LAUREN ALAINA (LAUREN SUDDETH)
This teenager is another one of the producers’ favorites. She’s received almost as much air time as Scotty. She seems a little obsessed with Steven Tyler. Her cousin Holly was diagnosed with a brain tumor three years ago.
He gained a fan following during the Hollywood phase of the competition, thanks to his emotional rendition of “God Bless the Child.” He sobbed uncontrollably after the performance.
She’s originally from Columbia. Unfortunately, the country had a lot of violence in the '90s. Her parents moved to the U.S. with two kids and no jobs. They've inspired Julie. She’s received lots of air time so far. Jennifer Lopez said she could win the competition.
She’s an R&B belter similar to former “Idol” contestants like Lil Rounds and Tamyra Gray. She received a moderate amount of air time during the Hollywood phase of the competition.
He’s a high school outcast who looks like a curly-haired version of Budnick from “Salute Your Shorts.” He’s received a lot of screen time so far this season.
This 15-year-old singer is a former “America’s Got Talent” contestant. She’s received lots of air time so far.
She’s received a good amount of air time, thanks to her back story: She works a cleaning job at Summerfest, the big music festival in Milwaukee. She wishes she could be on stage.
She auditioned last season and got rejected. She reminds me of Katelyn Epperly from the ninth season of “American Idol.”
CLINT JUN GAMBOA
Sigh. Where do I begin? Perhaps I should mention that Clint is my least favorite singer this season. He’s a karaoke host at a dive bar. Search the Internet and you’ll learn he recorded some music for cult film “The Room.”
Unfortunately, most fans remember Clint for his actions during Hollywood Week, when he led a decision to kick 15-year-old Jacee Badeaux out of his group.
Is it just me, or does this guy look like he belongs in Lady Antebellum? Paul has received virtually no air time so far, but might score points for his quirky style. I’m rooting for him because he hails from my boyfriend’s hometown: Huntsville, Ala.
She auditioned via MySpace. When she first met the judges, she told a story about singing for Jennifer Lopez on “TRL.”
She made it to Hollywood in Season 6, according to spoiler site Joe’s Place. We’ve only seen bits and pieces of her performances so far, but she sounds pretty good.
He was in an accident that changed his life. Medics initially thought he was dead. Then, they thought he'd never walk. He's OK now, but he says the experience made him hungrier for success.
He spent some of his life in a wheelchair. He seems like one of the producers’ favorites.
She’s received a sparse amount of screen time, but has a pretty big voice. Spoiler site Joe’s Place reports she made it to Hollywood in 2004.
She auditioned in Season Six with an opera song, made it to Hollywood and got cut. How will she fare this time around?
He teaches piano and vocal lessons. Jordan attracted some drama during Hollywood Week when he left his group and joined a new one.
He’s a die-hard Jennifer Lopez fan who auditioned in Los Angeles. He’s received limited screen time so far.
He’s a shipbuilder whose parents were born in Cuba. He took off his shirt when he first met the judges in New Orleans.
KENDRA CHANTELLE CAMPBELL
She’s received very limited air time, so we don’t know much about Kendra. Think she’ll surprise us?
She’s another singer who’s received very limited air time. I’m not too impressed so far. We’ll have to wait and see how she performs next week.
