A Montgomery police officer has been indicted on federal wire fraud and identity theft charges.
U.S. Attorney Leura Canary said 41-year-old Bradley Howard Pemberton used a law enforcement database to access someone else’s personal information, and use that information to open a credit card.
Pemberton could not immediately be reached for comment Saturday.
The database is to be used strictly for law enforcement purposes. But Pemberton used it in December 2008 to get the personal information and then opened the credit card account using his own address but the other person’s name, Social Security number and date of birth.
Never miss a local story.
Canary says Pemberton then used the account to make payments on another fraudulently obtained credit card.Pemberton has been placed on mandatory leave with pay.
