A Phenix City man faces drug charges after Columbus police spotted him loitering early Sunday just blocks from the Muscogee County Jail.
Steve White, 49, is charged with possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, abandonment of a controlled substance and loitering in connection with the case, reports state.
Officers spotted the suspect on Sixth Avenue, near Seventh Street, around 12:50 a.m. When he saw police, he crossed the street and threw something from his pocket on the ground, police said.
Officers found 2.4 grams of suspected crack cocaine in 11 different baggies when they searched the area, reports state.
Police said the suspect told officers he just found the baggies in an alley.
Officers then arrested White, who is being held on bonds of $5,395.
