Robert G. Johnston III, the former Superior Court judge from Columbus who served nearly three decades on the bench, died this morning. He was 62.
A Columbus native, Johnston graduated from Columbus High School and earned a law degree in 1973 from the Emory University School of Law. He wore a number of hats in the local judiciary over the years, including state court judge, and was appointed Superior Court judge in October 1995.
He resigned in February 2010 for health reasons, though he also had come under the scrutiny of the Judicial Qualifications Commission.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in Columbus.
