More than 500 walkers and runners, many accompanied by their four-legged friends, raised $37,774.94 for the Open Door Community House Saturday morning during the 24th Annual Walk Classic.
The 4.2 mile course started at Open Door, wound through Uptown Columbus, continued over the Columbus and Phenix City riverwalks before finishing at Open Door, where participants listened to live music performed by The Pilgrimage Band and lunched on food provided by the Heavens' Saints Motorcycle Ministry.
St. Paul United Methodist Church raised $10,043 to lead participating churches in funds raised while Pierce Chapel United Methodist Church turned out 202 walkers to take the award for highest number of participants. Becky Ivy of Epworth United Methodist Church in Phenix City raised $719 to lead individual fundraisers.
Open Door is affiliated with the South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church.
