Much of the Chattahoochee Valley has been placed under a tornado watch until 9 p.m. EDT, according to the National Weather Service.
Muscogee, Harris, Chattahoochee, Talbot and Troup, Russell and Lee counties are included in the advisory.
The watch comes as thunderstorms and showers are expected to impact the area. A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms is forecast this afternoon for Columbus, and some of the storms may be severe, according to the National Weather Service.
The chance of precipitation increases tonight to 70 percent with nearly a quarter inch of new rainfall possible.
Tomorrow's forecast also looks wet with a 60 percent chance of rain.
