A Columbus man accused of severely beating a woman Thursday in south Columbus pleaded not guilty to the charge this afternoon in Recorder's Court. Calvin King, 35, faces one count of aggravated assault.
Police said the assault happened about 6 p.m. Thursday in the 2900 block of Radford Street. A witness told police that King walked into a home cursing and muttering to himself.
When officers arrived at the scene, the woman was bleeding from the nose and mouth, and imprints from King's knuckles could be seen on her face, authorities said. Police said the woman was hospitalized with a ruptured pupil.
Officers said the attack appeared to be motivated by a money dispute.
King was ordered held without bond in the Muscogee County Jail.
