A state corrections officer who returned home Tuesday afternoon found a burglar in his storage unit, Columbus police said.
Kerry Lee Starling, 32, faces a burglary charge in connection with the incident, reports state.
Officer Al Dean, 48, was in uniform when he returned to his Auburn Avenue home around 3:30 p.m. He saw that the door to his storage unit was open when it should have been closed. The door then shut, and the officer opened it, police said.
Reports state that Dean saw the suspect in his storage unit. He tried to hold the suspect at gunpoint, though the suspect ran. Dean followed and tackled him in the backyard of a Habersham Avenue home, about a tenth of a mile away.
Two popsicles, valued at $2, and a flathead screwdriver were found in the suspect’s pockets, police said.
