A Columbus man who claimed he only wanted to say hello to a 12-year-old girl was indicted Tuesday for criminal attempt to commit kidnapping and simple battery, reports state.
Bobby Wesley, 53, is accused of grabbing the girl’s arm and pulling her away from her aunt’s South Andrews Circle home on Aug. 20. The girl escaped and started running to her Cusseta Road home while the suspect followed her, telling her she shouldn’t be scared, reports state.
The girl reached her home, and her sister then followed the suspect to Victory Mobile Home Park. Officers found the suspect hiding when they arrived, though he told them he didn’t know anything about the girl’s story, police said.
The suspect later told police he only wanted to say hello, reports state.
Initially charged with enticing a child for indecent purposes, that count was changed before it reached the grand jury, officials said.
