A Columbus woman received second- and third-degree burns in a Wednesday fire at her Illges Road apartment.
Firefighters responded to 699 Illges Road at 8:49 p.m. They had to force their way inside the 59-year-old’s apartment, finding the woman near her front door, said Fire Marshal Ricky Shores.
“She was unable to get out of the apartment,” Shores added.
It took firefighters about 15 minutes to control the blaze, which was accidental and started in the living room. Shores declined to say what started the fire.
The woman was taken to The Medical Center, where doctors found her burned over 40 to 50 percent of her body. She was then taken to Augusta’s burn center, Shores said.
Her condition is unknown.
