UPDATE: In a Friday conference call with reporters, ousted "American Idol" contestant Paul McDonald described his Opelika roots and said he's dating "Twilight" actress Nikki Reed. Learn more here.
Haley Reinhart and Stefano Langone joined him in the bottom three. Paul is the first male sent home since we entered the top 13 phase of the competition.
Seven singers remain on "Idol."
Never miss a local story.
Weigh in: Did Paul deserve to go home?
I'm glad we didn't lose another woman, but I wish Stefano would have gone instead of Paul.
After learning he'd been eliminated, Paul repeated his performance of "Maggie May."
War eagle, Paul. War eagle.
Over 53 million votes were cast this week, according to host Ryan Seacrest. We saw mini group performances from the eight finalists.
Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina did "American Honey." Alleged lovebirds Casey Abrams and Haley Reinhart did "Moanin." Stefano Langone, Jacob Lusk, James Durbin and Paul McDonald did "The Sound of Silence" and "Mrs. Robinson."
Viewers watched a guest performance by Rihanna, as well as a duet from Kelly Clarkson and Jason Aldean. We also got footage of Rob Reiner talking to the gang. He got bonus points for his shout-out to "From Justin to Kelly."
So what do you think, "Idol" fans? Did you handle this week's results better than Pia's elimination? Will the judges embrace a mean streak next week? Will you keep watching?
