Update: Columbus attorney Shevon Sutcliffe Thomas arrested on aggravated assault charge
Columbus attorney Shevon Sutcliffe Thomas was arrested early today on an aggravated assault charge, police said.
Thomas, 47, is accused of striking his 45-year-old wife in the face with a dinner plate in the bedroom of their Hurst Drive home around 12:16 a.m. His wife had cuts to her forehead, a bloody nose and a swollen right eye, reports state.
Police said Thomas’ wife, who works at his law office, declined medical treatment.
Officers responded to the home and arrested Thomas, who made his $7,500 bond earlier today, officials said.
Thomas declined to speak about his arrest, deferring comment to his attorney, Stacey Jackson.
“At this point, I don’t want to comment on any specific facts or details of the incident,” Jackson said. “At this point, it’s only an accusation. It’s he and his wife — it’s a private matter.”
Thomas has been an attorney in many high-profile cases in Muscogee County. Thomas was defense attorney for fired Parks and Rec Director Tony Adams during the scandal over the past two years.
