So...you missed the Golden Globes Sunday night. I'll give you a quick refresher. "The Artist," "The Descendants" and "Homeland" fared well at the ceremony, and many of the usual suspects -- think George Clooney and Meryl Streep -- nabbed trophies.
Awards aside, many of your friends will likely be buzzing about Ricky Gervais' hosting duties. He delivered the usual set of predictable jabs, but generally avoided controversy. Although Elton John seemed to have a scowl on his face throughout most of the night.
Your friends will also likely analyze the reference to Martin Henderson in Peter Dinklage's acceptance speech for his role on "Game of Thrones." He was likely referring to the dwarf who reportedly "claims he was partially paralyzed on his birthday when a stranger lifted and heaved him onto the hard ground outside an English pub."
There was no major acceptance speech drama, with the exception of Meryl Streep's strange on-podium search for her eyeglasses and/or acceptance speech. Sigh. Just Meryl being Meryl.
Never miss a local story.
Local readers: Octavia Spencer, who won a Golden Globe for her role in "The Help," is an Auburn University alum.
Oh yeah...I think that we can all agree the real winner at this year's Golden Globes was that cute little dog from "The Artist," who was present at the ceremony. So. Adorable. You can see his photo in our Golden Globes photo gallery.
Here's a full recap of the show.
8 p.m. - Well hello again, Ricky Gervais! The host starts the ceremony with, "So...where was I?" Among my favorite quips in Ricky Gervais' monologue:
On Eddie Murphy refusing to host the Oscars: "When the man who said yes to Norbit says no to you, you know you're in trouble."
On Kim Kardashian's short marriage: "I've sat through longer James Cameron acceptance speeches than that."
He called the Hollywood Foreign Press a "nonprofit organization...just like NBC."
8:10 - Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture is Christopher Plummer for "Beginners." I love his shout-out to his wife of 43 years. He says her "bravery and beauty haunts me still."
