A Friday search of a site where human remains were found Jan. 28 revealed no new evidence, Opelika police said.
Opelika police officers and FBI agents searched late last week the woods by Brook Haven Trailer Park. The 29 law enforcement officers returned to the site Thursday and Friday to clear the area of underbrush and thoroughly search the area where a skull was found Jan. 28.
“A thorough grid search of the area was conducted, and no additional remains or items of evidence were located or recovered,” said Capt. Bruce DeLong.
Skeletal remains previously have been found within 50-75 yards of the skull. They’ve been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences. The gender and race of the remains are unknown, though authorities believe they belonged to a child younger than 10.
