A six-year-old child at Eagle Ridge Academy was struck by a car early this morning.
The kindergartner was struck by a vehicle in the car drop off area of the elementary school just before 8 a.m., Valerie Fuller, the Muscogee County School District's director of communications, said.
Columbus police said the child and his parents were walking to school when he turned around to pick up something he had dropped. Another car in the school drop-off area pulled away and bumped the child.
The child's injuries are unknown at this time, but he is alert and his vitals were fine, Fuller said. He was transported to the ER for further treatment.

According to police, there are no charges filed against the driver at this time.
An Edgewood Elementary student was hit by a car at a bus stop last month.
"We encourage everyone to be mindful of their surroundings," Fuller said.
