Lee County authorities said Thursday they are investigating the possible suicide of an inmate at the county’s detention facility.
The 42-year-old woman, whose name hasn’t been released, apparently hanged herself inside the Lee County Detention Facility. She was found about 8:40 a.m. CST by a correctional officer inside a wing of the jail. The officer called for help, and medical staff responded to the area and tried to revive the inmate, said Lee County sheriff’s Capt. Van Jackson.
Efforts to resuscitate the inmate failed, and Lee County Coroner Bill Harris pronounced the woman dead, Jackson added.
The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is investigating the death. There appears to be no foul play, Jackson said.
