A teen accused of killing a Fort Benning combat medic in a June traffic wreck was indicted Tuesday by a Muscogee County grand jury, Superior Court records state.
Jack L. Hughes, 17, was indicted on five counts of first-degree vehicular homicide and one count each of possession of TFMPP, possession of amphetamine and possession of Clonazepam, records show.
Hughes faces charges in connection with the June 27 death of Sgt. Jerome C. Owens, 39, of Valdosta, Ga. Owens died after a 1998 Ford F-150 going east on Macon Road collided with the soldier’s 2002 Nissan Altima as it made a left-hand turn from Elm Street about 5:15 a.m., Columbus Police Lt. Mark D. Starling said.
Owens was pronounced dead about an hour later at The Medical Center, authorities said.
