A woman blazing a trail through Columbus Park Crossing to get to Party City got police on her tail Saturday, leading to misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Police said a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer on the access road to the Whittlesey Boulevard shopping center started "cutting through the parking lanes at a high rate of speed, failing to yield to oncoming traffic" about 5:30 p.m. The driver "was holding her horn down continuously," police reported. "She parked her car and went into Party City before police could get to her."
Officers questioning her in the store smelled alcohol, and gave the woman a field-sobriety test after she acknowledged having had "a couple of beers," they said. The test indicated a blood-alcohol content of .082, just over the legal limit, police said.
They arrested Blackmon Road resident Erica Michelle Ector, 26, according to an arrest report.
