An 11-year-old child died late Monday in an Opelika, Ala. house fire, authorities said.
The child, whose name hasn’t been released, was pulled about 10:45 p.m. CDT from a burning Bulloch Street home. Unconscious at the time, the child was pronounced dead later that night, officials said.
Police spotted the fire during a routine patrol. They called firefighters, who responded to the 1800 block of Bulloch Street.
Three adults and two children were outside the home at the time. Officers were told someone was still inside, and they tried to enter the home in an attempt to rescue the child, police said.

“Officers could not enter due to the heavy smoke and flames,” Capt. Bruce DeLong said in a release. “Firefighters entered the residence and found an 11-year-old child unconscious in the residence.”
No cause of death has been released. The cause of the fire is under investigation, authorities said.
