Police in Opelika, Ala., say they have charged 30-year-old Labrande Marquese Hughley in the fatal Sunday morning shooting of David Lewis Lyles.
Hughley was arrested about 6:30 p.m. CDT at the city police department, they said. Investigators now are seeking a second suspect wanted for questioning, they said.
A police officer on patrol near the 100 block of Chester Avenue heard multiple gunshots about 3 a.m. Sunday before finding the 39-year-old victim lying dead in the road with several wounds to his upper torso, authorities said. An ambulance took the body to the the East Alabama Medical Center, where Lyles was pronounced dead at 3:32 a.m.
"Investigation revealed the victim and two other male subjects got into an argument in the roadway. During the argument one of the males pulled out a handgun and shot Lyles," police reported today.
