Murder suspect Jody Perry, a Columbus man wanted in the March 2011 death of Pittsview, Ala., pastor, was captured today by authorities in Phenix City.
Perry is the fifth suspect charged in the death of Blanchard Thomas, the pastor found dead under the Oglethorpe Bridge near Golden Park. Suspects are charged with malice murder, felony murder, kidnapping, armed robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Perry’s arrest comes less than a week after a Columbus man was accused of renting a car for the fugitive.
Officers taking part in the arrest included Columbus police, U.S. Marshals Office and Phenix City police. More arrests may follow in the capture of Perry, police said.
