Patti Buckhiester, a volunteer with the American Red Cross West Central Georgia Chapter in Columbus. left today for White Plains, N.Y., where she will drive an Emergency Response Vehicle helping deliver supplies to the victims of Superstorm Sandy.
She is expected to be gone for two to three weeks.
"I will miss Thanksgiving dinner with my family but it will be worth it if I can ease the hardships for some of the families left homeless by Sandy."
Asked why she became a Red Cross volunteer about five years ago, she replied, "I saw a need. I want to serve my community and help people."
