A man was arrested for simple assault Tuesday morning at the Veterans Parkway Circle K after threatening another man with utility pliers, according to a Columbus Police Department report.
Officers arrived at the Circle K on the 1400 block of Veterans Parkway at about 11 a.m. after receiving reports of a domestic dispute. The victim told police that he was walking into the Circle K with his girlfriend when Charles Tukes, 50, began using profane language towards them. The victim told the man not to talk to his girl like that and walked into the store.
Later, when the victim went out to smoke a cigarette, Tukes allegedly began yelling at him again. After the man exchanged words with him, Tukes pulled out what appeared to be a knife and threatened the man.
The victim then ran into the Circle K and was told to go to the Subway next door to call 911.
An officer found Tukes later behind Uneeda Glass Company carrying a black trash bag. When the officer asked Tukes if he had a knife on him, he pulled out a pair of Gerber utility pliers.
Tukes was charged with simple assault. He was taken to Muscogee County Jail.
