Columbus Council unanimously approved an ordinance this morning to allow the sale of refillable 32- and 64-ounce jugs of draft beer for people to take with them.
Known as "growlers," stores specializing in their sales have sprung up all around metro Atlanta and in Athens and Savannah. But state law does not allow bars or brew pubs that sell alcohol for on-premises consumption to sell the growlers.
Councilor Skip Henderson introduced the ordinance at the behest of the owners of the Cannon Brew Pub, who want to able to sell their craft beers for take-home use.
“If you want to take some home with you, I think you should be able to do it,” Henderson said.
